In 2015, only half of youth reported receiving any form of reproductive health education in school. Additionally, sexual taboos and lack of parental knowledge about reproductive health often pose additional barriers. The Violet Project offers adolescents the autonomy to reliably and confidentially learn about their sexual and reproductive health. The digital platform consists of a trusted source of education about sexual health, reproduction (including anatomy), and menstrual hygiene. Research shows that youth who enter puberty with a strong understanding of reproductive health are more emotionally and intellectually equipped for impending physical, sexual, and emotional changes.
The content on the website is verified by physicians, directed by adolescents and young adults, and written to make sexual and reproductive health easy to understand for young people. We have established a youth advisory board to ensure the content is relevant and easy to understand. Through donations, we hope to increase access to digestible and digitally sound education that is desperately needed to improve sexual and reproductive health outcomes.
