When you’re 25 miles into a marathon you always ask yourself “why”. Why am I here? Why did I train for months for this? Or maybe “why did I go way too fast for the first half.”.
For me and this race; it is the three-way intersection of supporting a purpose I believe in, spontaneity, and a friendly rivalry between friends. My parents are lifelong supporters and advocates of the VAI and the institute’s pursuit of research breakthroughs for Parkinson’s, cancer, and Alzheimer’s. Now as I have gotten older and after seeing these diseases impact those close in my life, I feel called to do my part as well. It was this purpose that started the journey to the starting line. After a late night email saying there was one open spot I spontaneously reached out to join. After a moment of pause, hearing a friend was doing the same, I knew I had to commit to it.
