Having a Peer support program is so important to me. Why? I have spent all of my adult life serving this great country, the State of Connecticut and now the citizens of Indian River County, serving 37+ years and counting as a Law Enforcement Officer (Military & Civilian). I know all too well that having a Peer support program for our Military, and First Responders is greatly needed to ultimately protect our resilient warriors, who sometimes put up emotional walls to deal with the stresses of our jobs. These silent warriors have sacrificed so much for their communities. Peer support programs are specifically designed to take care of the emotional wellbeing of our Military, law enforcement, and First Responders. The men and women of our Military and First Responders experience, and have witnessed things that no other human being can truly understand. Each one of these experiences take a piece of our silent warriors, chipping away at the heart and soul of the person. Peer support helps you realize you’re not alone behind those walls. So, having a Peer support program is a resource for the emotional survival of our silent warriors, knowing that there is someone to turn to for assistance with the difficulties we deal with at work and home. I think Peer support is equivalent to working out and eating right to keep a healthy body. We need to do the same and keep a healthy mind and soul.
