“Dr. John and the Burning Sensations” was formed to battle it out in the upcoming Doc Rock competition, but the band’s roots go much further back.  Rachel Hunter, John Hunter, and Johnson Hardy all work together as surgeons at the University of South Alabama.  They met Hunter Pipkins, Dave Jernigan, and Karl Betts many years ago at the Cedar Street Social Club in downtown Mobile.  They have been playing together at the Tuesday Night Acoustic Jam ever since.

“Uncle Dave” and Karl lend their years of expert musicianship, having played all over the Gulf Coast for decades and become two of the bedrock musicians in the area.  They are multi-instrumentalists (fiddle, mandolin, banjo, dobro, guitar), sublime harmonists, and their music catalog knowledge is unmatched.  They share their love of music every Tuesday night at Cedar Street Social Club with musicians young and old, novice and expert.

Hunter Pipkins brings his distinct vocals along with fine guitar and fiddle playing to the group.  He jumped into the Mobile music scene 5 years ago and hasn’t looked back.  Hunter can be found playing and singing all over Mobile with an authentic country-americana style that shouldn’t be missed.

Johnson Hardy is a general surgery resident and a helluva a guitar picker.  He hails from the deep woods of central Alabama.  But don’t let his deep country accent and love of camouflage overalls fool you - he’s the expert doc you want around when things go south!

Rachel and John are a husband-wife duo who bring bass and harmony to the group.  Rachel is a breast cancer surgeon at USA.  As a native Texan, she lends an authentic country harmony that’ll melt you like white gravy over a hot biscuit.  As a colorectal surgeon and upright bassist, John focuses on keeping the low-end right on track.

The Burning Sensations play a variety of bluegrass, folk, Americana and country music.  Influences include John Prine, Billy Strings, Hank Williams, Sturgill Simpson, Charley Crockett, and many more.
