My Fourth Year Supporting Pedal the Cause — and My First Year Riding

For the past few years, I have been proud to support Pedal the Cause financially. I have believed in the mission, contributed what I could, and watched this community rally around something that matters deeply. But this year feels different. This year, I felt compelled to do more than donate. This year, I signed up to ride.

What makes Pedal the Cause so powerful is knowing that the impact of every gift reaches far beyond the original donation. Pedal the Cause reports that, on average, every $1 donated to cancer research helps generate an additional $14 in outside research funding. Edward Jones has been supporting Pedal the Cause since 2010 and in that time has raised over $6.5M. That means the generosity shown through Edward Jones rides and supporters  over the years has helped enable more than $90M in research funding—real work, real scientists, and real hope.

Over the past few years, my family has lost multiple loved ones to cancer—beloved aunts and uncles. My wife has fought cancer twice and, thankfully, beaten it twice. Watching someone you love endure that fight changes you. It makes the word “research” feel less abstract and more like hope with a plan.

This year has also brought another deeply personal reminder of how fragile life can be. After losing my sister to a heart condition, I have been thinking more seriously about my own health, how I show up for the people I love, and what it means to keep moving forward with purpose. Riding this year is not only about raising money. It is about honoring those we have lost, supporting those still fighting, celebrating survivors, and committing myself to being healthier.
