Pedal the Cause

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's largest cancer fundraiser. It's a way of life, a celebration, a family and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer. I ride in honor of my wife, Anna.  As most of you know, Anna was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in her right breast in July 2015 and a few weeks later with stage 1 in her left breast.  While this was a battle that Anna and I did not expect to encounter (especially at age 36 with 3 kids under the age of 8), we were up to the task.  Anna handled her treatments remarkably well and her oncologist was always encouraged by how well she looked at all of her appointments.  After the initial shock, sadness, and anger.  Her positive and upbeat attitude carried over into the form of a "smile jar" that she created for others going through Chemo treatment at the Pratt Cancer Center at Mercy Hospital (St. Louis).  The Smile Jar consists of stickers, prayers, jokes, or anything else that may bring a smile to those battling through any form of cancer.  Anna's ability to recognize the need for more smiles in the world and especially in the Pratt Center, while battling her own cancer is an awesome testament to her personality and her desire to make the world a better place.  Anna is now considered cured while still living thru her post-treatment regiment and recurring doctor visits. 

I also ride in memory of Gary Schell, Jean Schroeder, Mark Frederickson, Janet Echele, Carl Echele, Lynda Prebil, Nick Becker, and Joe Owens and the numerous friends and family still in this fight.
