Pedal the Cause

Again this year, I’m pushing myself harder than ever — riding 62 miles on September 20, 2026 — not simply for the physical challenge, but for the millions of families, like mine and possibly yours, whose lives have been forever changed by cancer.

Each year I say that 100% of the funds raised go directly to cancer research, but I’ve realized I don’t always explain what that truly means. A conversation with Dr. Jeff Bednarski made it clear. After completing years of training, he brought a promising research idea to his department chair. The response was simple and sobering: That’s a great idea — how much funding have you secured?

That’s where Pedal the Cause makes a critical difference. Pedal provides the early-stage funding researchers need to prove their ideas — the essential first step that allows them to secure larger grants from institutions like the NIH. On average, every $1 donated through Pedal the Cause generates an additional $14 in outside research funding, resulting in more than half a billion dollars in leveraged cancer research support so far.
