About LowcoSports
MISSION

To provide multimedia sports coverage that celebrates the successes of teams and athletes in and from Beaufort and Jasper counties in the South Carolina Lowcountry.

VISION

To use our platform to build a sense of community around sports in the Lowcountry region with an emphasis on our shared humanity, and to give back to the community through student internship opportunities, charitable donations, and partnerships with local non-profit organizations.

LowcoSports.com is an independent news organization, owned and operated by me, Justin Jarrett, under the Lowco Media LLC umbrella. (I also provide freelance writing and editing, public relations, and marketing consulting through Lowco Media.)

It is not, in any way, affiliated with any newspaper, though I do provide sports content to The Island News on a contract basis. I also freelance for Hilton Head Monthly, CH2 Magazine, Parenthood IQ, and South Magazine, among others.

LowcoSports is mostly just me — though I get by with a little help from my friends.

And it is good to have friends.

Tom Cloud, Mary Beth Lyons, and Bob Cragin are friends who occasionally send me photos they’ve taken at sporting events and allow me to publish them on the website. Jim Killian is an excellent photographer based in Walterboro who does the same.

Carlo Perruzza is a young man I’ve known since my days as the sports information director at USCB who has a great future in sports broadcasting. Carlo has worked to bring you more video packages as part of an internship for his graduate program at Georgia Southern University.

Guys like Jimmy Searson, Dale Butts, Robbie Kinsey, and Butch Mullis keep me posted on high school football games I can’t attend and make things a little easier when I get home at 10:30 p.m. (or later) on Friday night and have to track down all the details from every game involving local teams so I can get all the recaps posted before you wake up Saturday morning.

Two of my newest friends are Javon Livingston, owner of the new company Beaufort’s Own, who has agreed to share his highlight videos via LowcoSports.com, and Wes Kerr, the producer and co-host of the new LowcoSports Lowdown podcast. Both Javon and Wes are passionate about local sports, and I’m excited to have them contributing.

And there’s Corinne Steinbauer, who loved what I was doing and reached out to see if she could help. Now she’s the very first commissioned sales rep for LowcoSports, seeking local businesses who want to support the site and help keep it going.

Then, of course, there is high school intern Brooke Simons, who chips in whenever she can find time in her busy schedule, and the countless coaches and athletic directors who relay results and stats so I can publish them and keep the community in the know.

I am certain there are others I’m forgetting at the moment.

If you’ve been reading LowcoSports.com since it launched in July 2017 — and especially now that you know that it’s one person’s labor of love — you know I’m passionate about local sports and the role it plays in our community. If you know me, you know I’ve been covering local sports in this area since 2005, when I started a six-year stint in the sports department at The Island Packet and Beaufort Gazette. (What you may not know is that I’m also the volunteer President of Bluffton Youth Sports, the co-founder of the Lowcountry Wrestling Club, and a volunteer coach for both organizations as well as the Bluffton Waves travel baseball club.)

Athletics is an important part of each child’s development — and a lifeline for some — and the successes of our teams and athletes are a source of civic pride and something worth celebrating.

That’s our mission at LowcoSports.com — celebrating the successes of our local teams and athletes — and I say “our” not because we have a massive staff but because we’re all in this together — me and all my friends.

Thanks for being a part of it.
