Mission
To preserve and steward Aquidneck Island’s open spaces for the lasting benefit of the community, while connecting people with the land that defines the Island’s natural character.

History
Aquidneck Land Trust (ALT) was formed in 1990 by a group of local residents concerned about the pace of real estate development and the increasing disengagement of residents and visitors from the Island’s natural resources. Community support has grown to attract and retain a fully-engaged staff, board of trustees, board of advisors, and other volunteers who serve on several governing and event committees. ALT has grown its membership to over 1,300 constituents and has conserved 2,815.90 acres of open space over 99 properties (11.5% of Aquidneck Island). The original founders continue to be involved as trustees and/or advisors and, together with staff, have committed to continuing our land conservation mission. ALT is proud of its long record of strong fiscal management and institutional integrity, both of which have enabled it to seek and receive public, private, and foundational support for thirty years, as well as receive accreditation with the National Land Trust Accreditation Commission.
