TWIN RIVERS WOLF & WOLFDOG SANCTUARY

What is a Wolfdog?  A Wolfdog is a hybrid canine with both dog and wolf ancestry. Most Wolfdogs in the United States are the result of deliberate breeding for the exotic pet trade.
Governments and Humane Societies generally classify all Wolfdogs as 'wild' and oppose private ownership, regardless of percentage of wolf content. However, the mixture of wild and domestic traits varies by animal, meaning that behavior can be very different even among Wolfdogs with the same percentages.
Why do wolves & Wolfdogs need sanctuaries?  Sanctuaries provide lifelong care for:
  • Wolves that have been injured and cannot be re-released into the wild after medical treatment.
  • Wolves that lack hunting and other survival skills (ie captive-bred or raised by humans as pets.)
  • Wolfdogs in regions where private ownership of Wolfdogs is prohibited or highly regulated.
  • Wolfdogs that are unadoptable due to high wolf content, past abuse or injury, or because they exhibit wild traits.
How will your donation help? Twin Rivers will use your donation to:
  • Build special enclosures! These canines need a lot of room to run and play! They are generally solitary and are usually housed 1-2 per enclosure.
  • Feed them! Wolves and Wolfdogs are carnivores: we spend over $700/week feeding the animals in our care.
  • Provide vet care! Wild animals require vet care from a specialty vet. Unlike a domestic dog, many of these canines require sedation for even the simplest procedures.
About Twin Rivers:  We are a nonprofit Wolfdog sanctuary giving lifelong care to our residents. Our mission is to
  • Rescue captive-bred wolves and Wolfdogs which have been abused, abandoned, and scheduled for euthanasia.
  • Provide sanctuary for those which cannot be adopted
  • Seek out and find homes for adoptable Wolfdogs where they can be provided with a safe, loving and correct environment.
  • Educate the public about the needs and requirements of this type of canine.
