Suffolk County is home to New York's largest veterans population and all net proceeds raised from this year’s Catholic Health Suffolk County Marathon will support our local veterans.

Complete applications and required documents are due to the Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency on November 17, 2023  by 4:00pm

Over the past 8 years, the race has donated to the following Charities via grants.

 

 

We provide emergency financial assistance to those who have served in – or are still serving in – the finest military in the world.

Our current emphasis has not only been on those service men and women who participated in the global war on terrorism, but all military veterans from all eras.

The transition period from military to civilian is a critical time psychologically and financially. Some are going through the lengthy process of applying for a service-connected disability or have fallen on hard times and have no other means of support.

 

Airborne Tri Team is a non-for-profit organization specifically designed for mentally and physically challenged war veterans. The central focus of ATT is to provide war veterans with opportunities, physical challenges and goal oriented physical achievements to maximize their potential and increase their self-esteem all by being part of a Team. Self-Esteem is fundamental and promotes the development of physical, social and emotional well-being. ATT encompasses this essential element of well-being in activities such as sports and fitness to promote social and, for physically injured, motor development.

 

The mission of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) is to provide support, services and education to individuals, families and caregivers affected by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias nationwide, and fund research for better treatment and a cure.

 

The service dog programs of America’s VetDogs were created to provide enhanced mobility and renewed independence to veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders with disabilities, allowing them to once again live with pride and self-reliance.  America’s VetDogs specializes placing highly-skilled service and guide dogs to individuals with physical injuries, PTSD, hearing and vision loss, and seizures.

 

Suffolk County Legion

American Legion Babylon Post #94 is a dedicated community service organization with a focus on military and veteran concerns. we still serve the United States of America.

American Legion Sayville Post #651 Together, members of The American Legion, The American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of The American Legion make up what is known as The Legion Family. All three organizations place high importance on preserving our American traditions and values, improving the quality of life for our nation's children, caring for veterans and their families, and perhaps most importantly, teaching the fundamentals of good citizenship.

 

As the local chapter of Mental Health America and of the Mental Health Association of New York State, it is our mission to drive evidence-based practices, information, education, and resources to the residents of Suffolk County.

 

 

Since 1922 the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary (DAVA) has partnered with the DAV parent organization in their mission of service to disabled veterans and their families. That relationship has continued to flourish and the blended organizations have achieved many victories in their quest to improve the quality of life our veterans rightly deserve.

 

 

Dominican Village, founded by the Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville, New York, is a not-for-profit Independent and Assisted Living Community. Its mission is to provide a supportive environment in which the sacredness of life and the dignity of each person are held in the highest regard and to offer its residents a choice of programs and services which foster independence, promote physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health, and maximize opportunities for socialization.

 

 

Founded in 1977 and headquartered in Old Bethpage, benefits and proudly supports more than 4,000 individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, mental illness and traumatic brain injury. It is the mission of FREE to help individuals of all abilities realize their full potential. FREE provides a diverse array of supports and services including: housing, recovery services, transition to work, employment, day, community and family services, respite, crisis services, education and after-school support, primary and specialty health care and advocacy.

 

General Needs helps thousands of homeless Long Island Veterans and their families through your charitable donations and support. Our Mission focuses on providing the basic necessities that are missing in the everyday lives of our homeless veterans.

 

We believe those touched by military service can succeed at home by restoring their sense of self, family, and hope. Nationally, Hope For The Warriors provides comprehensive support programs for service members, veterans, and military families that are focused on transition, health and wellness, peer engagement, and connections to community resources.

Long Island Cares brings together all available resources for the benefit of the hungry and food insecure on Long Island and, to the best of our ability, provides for the humanitarian needs of our community. In December 2009, Jon Reese founded the Make It Count Foundation to inspire people everywhere to make the most of their lives. Having been greatly affected by the events of 9/11, Jon devoted the rest of the decade to charitable and philanthropic causes that would impact not only the quality of people’s lives, but also the direction. As a real estate developer, Jon lent his expertise to Habitat for Humanity as a board member and dedicated his time and talents to bettering the education and health of children and youth. To help children, families, war veterans and charitable and not-for-profit organizations through financial assistance and the purchase of products or equipment so as to aid in creating a better quality of life for those in need

 

 

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian began in 1995 as a therapeutic horseback riding program for individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable populations. Our mission has been, and continues to be, to provide a comprehensive therapeutic equine program using horses to facilitate growth, learning and healing. Our populations include children and adults with disabilities, those who have been abused or neglected, the military and the impoverished.

 

 

To train and place shelter dogs to serve and provide independence to our U.S. military Veterans that suffer from the emotional effects of war. In turn, each Veteran can experience the therapeutic and unconditional love only a companion animal can bring.

 

Project9line's mission is to support all Veterans including but not limited to those with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, by providing venues for them to communicate their experiences and express themselves. We offer Veteran networking, programs, workshops and opportunities for all Military and Veterans to tell their story through the Arts and Activities.   

 

RSVP exists so that someone like you, with the energy, life experience and knowledge to share, can make a big difference where you are most needed - in your community.

  • Is a 501(c)3 organization.
  • RSVP has been serving all of Suffolk County since 1972.
  • Is one of 35 RSVP Senior Projects in New York State.
  • Currently, over 800 volunteers are active in the community through RSVP.
  • We partner with over 100 not-for-profit organizations organizations throughout the county who need volunteers to assist them and have diverse opportunities at their sites.
  • Funded by federal, state, county and local government, as well as foundations and private contributions.
  • Rendered 103,867 hours in 2018. The Independent Sector has valued each volunteer hour at $29.19. Thus, this equates to 3.3 million dollars in manpower!

 

The purpose of the Suffolk Independent Living Organization, Inc. is to enable people with disabilities of Suffolk County, New York to gain effective control and direction of their lives. SILO advocates and promotes a growing sense of personal dignity and responsible community participation through training, community development and direct services responsive to the needs of the people.

The Suffolk Community College Foundation’s mission is to support student access to quality education and vocational skill training by providing scholarships, emergency loans and funding for program development. Additionally, the Foundation seeks to engage alumni to maintain their connection to the college, to support foundation events, philanthropy, student mentorship and internship opportunities.

United Veterans Beacon House, founded in 1994 and headquartered in Bay Shore, New York, honors those who have served to protect our nation. While most Americans pay homage on Veterans Day each year, the challenges faced by many veterans exist each and every day. As many veterans and their families strive to develop and maintain productive lives, Beacon House provides essential services to assist in the journey toward fruitful independence.

The Coast Guard CPOA was formed to advance the interests of the United States Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Corps, encouraging integrity and fidelity to the Service, and fellowship within our ranks.  In 1991, the Coast Guard Enlisted Association was chartered by and for junior enlisted personnel, under the auspices of the CPOA, reinforcing the Association’s motto – “In respect for those who have gone before us, and as a guide for those who follow”.

Our mission is to create futures free of violence through advocacy, counseling and education for survivors of intimate partner abuse, sexual violence, child abuse, elder abuse, human trafficking and veterans with PTSD.

 

 

As one of the longest living US Veterans diagnosed with 100% PTSD related disabilities, Frank Romeo embraced his trauma and made it his life’s mission to educate others. For 30 years he has traveled the country advocating for those who suffer from this socially crippling disease. Coupled with his incredible collection of soldier inspired artwork, Frank lectured at schools and events across the country with his award winning exhibit “The Art of War”.

 

 

The Warrior Ranch Foundation was established as a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation in 2016. It was established in the hearts and minds of its founders long before that. Their passion for horses, love of country, and appreciation of our nation’s veterans have combined to bring forth this unique organization designed to help veterans and rescue horses.
