Welcome to my fundraising page!
I am participating in the 2026 Defeat Multiple Myeloma 5K run on Sunday, June 28 in honor of my dad, Randy Ekins. He passed away on February 25th, 2016 after a brave and courageous 10 year fight. Fred Hutch is an amazing institution that provided incredible care for my dad. We are forever grateful for the teams that helped my dad fight for as long and as aggressively as he did. 100% of funds raised by participants like me will go directly to advancing multiple myeloma cancer research at Fred Hutch Cancer Center.
My dad will always live on in my heart. Fish on, Randy!!
What is Multiple Myeloma?
Multiple Myeloma is a cancer of plasma cells found in bone marrow. Normal plasma cells help the immune system fight disease, but when plasma cells become cancerous, they grow out of control and can produce a tumor called a plasmacytoma. If someone has more than one plasmacytoma, they have multiple myeloma.
Why support this event?
Defeat Myeloma’s mission is to raise awareness of multiple myeloma while supporting research that seeks to discover new treatments, improve the quality of life for myeloma patients, and ultimately find a cure for this devastating form of cancer. Funds from the 2026 Defeat Myeloma race will continue to support research at Fred Hutch involving the use of engineered immune cells called CAR T cells, an approach that has shown very promising early results for patients.
