Help the MREF provide aid to people displaced by the Turkey-Syria earthquake

The MREF is calling on its community to help raise funds for people in Syria who have been impacted by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake.

The initial earthquake hit Turkey and Syria on Feb. 6. There were “strong tremors and aftershocks that devastated southeast Turkey and Northwest Syria” – these number in the thousands according to United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Why the MREF is asking for donations:

Children – specifically in Syria, due to issues that existed prior to the earthquake – are at risk. Schools are closed because buildings are unsafe. Children are at high risk for cholera, family separation, abuse and more.

As of Feb. 20, Syria has three border crossings open for aid. The MREF has identified 501c3 nonprofit Alight, that, in partnership with Questscope, has been responding for earthquake survivors in Syria since Day 1.

Alight is providing hot meals and emergency food rations to thousands of families and is supporting six shelters. Children are struggling with the trauma and uncertainty they’re experiencing. In addition to food and shelter, Alight’s response teams are providing psychosocial support and first aid to help people process their trauma.

During the month of March, your donation to the MREF will be matched dollar for dollar up to $5,000.
