Pedal the Cause

Last year, I joined Pedal the Cause for the first time—just wanting to contribute, to ride, to be part of something good. I had no idea how much that decision would matter. In 2026, my sister‑in‑law Ruth Fleschner was diagnosed with Follicular Lymphoma, and suddenly Pedal the Cause became personal. Ruth is receiving extraordinary care at Siteman Cancer Center, and her strength & tenacity gives this ride deeper meaning.

I’m riding not only for Ruth, but also in memory of Deb Gribble, Greg Phillipson, Scott Tempel, my aunt Doris DePauli, my cousin Ed DePauli, my grandmother Anna Karnes, and so many others whose lives have been touched by cancer. Their names stay with me on every training ride, every climb, every mile and fuel my commitment to this cause.

Pedal the Cause isn’t just a ride—it’s a movement that funds groundbreaking cancer research right here in St. Louis. Every dollar donated goes directly to accelerating treatments, improving outcomes, and giving families hope.
