Pedal the Cause

I am proud to join Pedal the Cause again this year and ride alongside my family and friends to help in the fight against cancer. Pedal the Cause is more than the region's largest cancer fundraiser. It's a way of life, a celebration, a family and a movement fueled by the courage to end cancer.

Pedal became an important part of our family when my brother-in-law Curt, first rode 11 years ago. He registered to ride after my sister received a life changing diagnosis: triple negative breast cancer, BRCA-1 positive. After multiple surgeries and months of chemotherapy she fell in the minority of those with her diagnosis and was found to be **cancer free**. Nine years later our worlds were rocked again when our mom was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic melanoma. I will never forget sitting in the doctor's office with her when she asked her oncologist "How long do I have?". His response was "Ten years ago I would have told you that you have about a year". For 2 years, mom received treatment at Siteman Cancer Research Center and thanks to the incredible advances in technology and treatment we are beyond thrilled to say she is also now **cancer free**! We thank God every day for these blessings and for the doctors, nurses and researchers who are saved her life. This is our "why". This is why the boys, and I continue drive to St. Louis each September to ride in person with our team, The Mud and The Muck.
