For the 5th year in a row I'm participating and fundraising for the World Water Classic, a virtual run. 

I'm fundraising to further Water For People's work!

On average, women in low and middle-income countries walk 6k each day to fetch water and it's commonly not safe to drink. The global water crisis disproportionately affects women and children and as a mom of a daughter who has spent her career in water treatment, I am so passionate about this cause. 

The thing about the global water crisis is that we have the solutions to end it, we just need education, resources, and global commitment. 

Water scarcity and water quality are two issues that should be a concern to every global citizen. Without adequate water supply & drinking water and sanitation solutions we can't thrive. Global GDP is affected and human life is lost. That's the uncomfortable truth. 

I’ve been participating each year since 2021 and I do it because I am fortunate enough to be born in a place in the world where access to clean and safe adequate sanitation is a given, but so many others have been born into places where that is not the case. I’ve had the opportunity to visit Peru, Bolivia, parts of Africa and India and that really opened my eyes to how much we take for granted in North America and also the burden this places on particularly women and children in these countries. I’ve spent my career in water treatment and it’s been really good to me, and I feel like the industry as a whole should take a leading interest in solving and investing in the global water crisis. For me, it’s just kind of the least I can do.  The more involved I’ve become, the more I’ve learned about Water For People and the work they do, the deeper the calling is to raise awareness and draw attention to the global water crisis, and that there are solutions with the right amount of investment and resources. 

Each year I do the walk or run with my headphones in, a comfy pair of running shoes, when the weather is just right without a 25 lb+ jug to carry, often with friends or family and I draw my attention to the women and children who do that same distance once or twice a day without those comforts, in varying temperature and weather conditions and it makes me want to keep doing the little that I can do, and encourage others to do the same.
