My name is Laura Ringler and I am a girl mom. I have four sweet girls, Adeline (8), Ashlynn (6), Addison (5) and Abigail (2). I thought being a girl mom would mean staying out of the ER, but on July 27th, 2023, Ashlynn was getting ready for a bath and tried to be a superhero by jumping off my bathroom stool. Instead of jumping, she fell off the stool and contacted a sharp edged drawer handle, causing a horizontal laceration directly across the pupil of the left eye. She was rushed to New Orleans Children's Hospital where Dr. Leon performed a four hour emergency surgery placing 12 stiches across her eye and injecting the eyeball with the fluid that had leaked from the laceration. Even after a successful surgery, the medical team at New Orleans Children's Hospital weren't sure if the eye could be saved or if she would ever be able to see again from the eye. What followed was an extensive recovery journey that included countless eye drops, vital daily eye patching/therapy and multiple follow-up doctor visits. Over two years later, through God's healing hand, a community of prayerful friends and family, Ashlynn's hard work, and the exemplary staff at New Orleans Children's Hospital, Ashlynn's eyesight has improved to an incredible 20/25 vision. This year I will be running the Crescent City Classic 10K race in New Orleans to raise funds in support of the incredible team at New Orleans Children's Hospital and hopefully to encourage parents in similar traumatic situations to not lose hope. ~ For nothing will be impossible with God. - Luke 1:37
