Diagnosis: Complete ACL Ruptures x3
Marinn was an immediate natural when she joined the soccer team her freshman year and quickly made the junior varsity team. During summer practice, however, she took a tumble and heard a loud pop in her knee. After appointments at Nationwide Children's Hospital’s Urgent Care in Marysville, and follow-up with Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, it was confirmed that Marinn had a complete rupture of the ACL in her left knee.
Several weeks later she had surgery to repair the ACL. The surgery went well, and her follow-up physical therapy was also a success. Soon, she was back on the soccer pitch.
Unfortunately, one year later to the day, Marinn was in surgery again for yet another torn ACL, this time a complete rupture of her right ACL. She again underwent surgery and rehabilitation and was soon back to the field, this time, returning to her track team.
That fall, Marinn was ready for her senior year. Throughout the soccer season, she began complaining of her knee locking up. Eventually, it needed to be checked by the Sports Medicine team. An MRI revealed she had a compromised right ACL graft with meniscus damage. After a third and final surgery to repair the knee, Marinn decided it was time to hang up the cleats.
Though professional soccer isn’t in her future, her experience with Nationwide Children's sparked an interest in the field of orthopedics. Now in college at The Ohio State University, she is majoring in biology on the pre-med track and hopes to join the Nationwide Children’s team one day soon.
