The 🏒 MSU Women's D1 Hockey Team is proud to be lacing up our skates for the LivSports 24 Hour Adult Hockey Marathon, benefitting LivFree - a pediatric cancer nonprofit that provides Moments of Joy to kids and families to give them a break from struggle. Whether it is going to a game, a broadway show, a concert, or even just a night out - LivFree this there for the whole family.
We will be participating in this feat of endurance to use my passion as a platform for good. A donation of any amount will help me reach my initial goal.
About MSU Women's Hockey
The MSU Women's Club Hockey Team was formed in the spring of 1995. It was the first women's club hockey team in the state of Michigan. The first year the roster contained only 13 players, who played a very limited schedule that year. The 1995-1996 season showed improvement, with 15 players on the team and a full schedule of games from early October until Late February.
In 1996-1997, the club became a Central Collegiate Women's Hockey Association (CCWHA) member along with the University of Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio State, and Lake Forest. The team played a 30-game schedule. Also in 1996-1997, there were enough players to form a second team; the teams were identified by color. The white team would be geared more towards new players and developing basic hockey skills. The Green team played a competitive schedule in the CCWHA.
The Green team developed into a very competitive organization. In 2000-2001, the Green team also joined the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA), which is the national governing body for non-varsity men's and women's collegiate ice hockey.
In 2004-05, the Green team moved on to a more demanding ACHA schedule, and came in second in the ACHA National Championship tournament. The white team entered the CCWHA for their first season in the league.
Today, both teams are registered within the ACHA and CCWHA, as Division I and Division II, with Division II beginning as an ACHA team in the 2012-13 season.
