I had surgery on June 24, 2019 to remove a mass the size of a 2 liter bottle from my lower abdomen. Up until this time I was a healthy 53 year old..or so I thought.
A biopsy of the mass returned a diagnosis of Stage 1b serous carcinoma ovarian cancer turned my world upside down. I had no symptoms, no signs, no sickness, no bleeding, no pain. Having just witnessed one of son's get married, I was getting ready for another son's wedding in 13 days. This couldn't be happening.
Ovarian cancer is a disease where cancerous cells grow in the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or peritoneum (lining of the abdomen). It's often diagnosed at an advanced stage due to subtle or non-specific symptoms, making early detection challenging.
Unfortunately there is no screening or test to detect ovarian cancer. That's why your help is needed. Ovar'coming Together Ovarian Cancer Run/Walk raises funds to fight ovarian cancer and builds community amongst supporters and survivors.
This will be my fourth year participating. My team goal is $1,000. I hope you will join and/or help our team
