Dear Friends and Family,
We are so proud to co-captain Team Pedal to the Medal (formerly Merlin’s Magic Riders) this year as Sawyer passes the torch to us as he moves onto college at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York.
We have been close friends and teammates for as long as we can remember. We became fast friends when we were little and have grown up together attending elementary school at Community School and are now completing our freshman year at John Burroughs School in Saint Louis, Missouri. We love to spend time with each other playing field hockey and lacrosse, studying and sometimes, and best of all, simply hanging out.
Like so many of you, we also share the devastating impact of cancer on a family. Caroline lost her grandfather to pancreatic cancer in 2022 and Lila lost her aunt to lung cancer in 2020.
Caroline’s grandfather, John Fudemberg, known as “Beep” to his grandchildren, lost his battle to pancreatic cancer in the summer of 2022. Caroline has a distinct memory of learning of her grandfather’s diagnosis and the heartbreak that came with it. Beep could always put a smile on Caroline’s face with his huge smile and contagious laughter that lit up every room.
Lila’s aunt, Lindsey Rae Marglous, died suddenly after a short 30-day battle with lung cancer in November 2020. Aunt, as Lila affectionately calls her, was warm, creative, and fun-loving. She had a natural beauty that radiated from the inside and out. Lila still remembers with fondness the many exciting adventures she and aunt had together.
As many of you who know us well can attest, we pour our hearts into every challenge – whether it’s in the classroom or on the field – and Pedal the Cause is no different. We want to inspire our team and the Pedal community to put the pedal to the metal to raise critical funds required for breakthrough cancer research. We believe the research Pedal funds is the answer to cancer – and will help us achieve the ultimate gold medal – an end to all cancers.
We have an ambitious goal of raising $50,000.00 this year to support Pedal the Cause’s research efforts at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at Children’s Hospital. This year's Pedal the Cause weekend is September 20-21, 2025 in St. Louis, Missouri. Please consider joining our team to cycle, spinning in person or from afar in Lindsey's Spin Zone, and/or making a donation to the Pedal to the Medal team. 100% of all proceeds will go directly to fund cancer research in Saint Louis.
