We're back!!
We are so excited to participate in the Pittsburgh Melanoma Foundation's 5K Run/Walk at South Park again this year! This is year 3 of our participation in this event, and it also marks year 3 of a clean bill of health! Due to your amazing support and generosity last year, the foundation was able to donate $55,000 to Allegheny Health Network. This funding helped support the state-of-the-art Skin Cancer Center at West Penn Hospital. Let's keep striving to make the necessary advancements to rid the world of this awful disease and support those who are fighting the good fight.
If you're new to this crew and are wondering why Adam and I have taken an active role in this mission, here's the gist of my story:
In December of 2021, I received my diagnosis of melanoma. In a lapse of judgement, I answered the call from my dermatologist while I was still at work. I figured it was like all of the other biopsies I had: Come back, we'll take a larger sample, and you'll be fine. As I listened in a state of numbness and disbelief, I heard my doctor saying words I couldn't quite process: melanoma, surgery, oncologist. I truly don't remember much more of the conversation, but I do remember, very distinctly, my doctor telling me that at this point she was handing me over to an oncologist because there was nothing more she could do with this diagnosis. That was it.
I'll spare you the rest of the details, but one of the most important ones was the recommendation I received for Dr. Edington. He is one of the most renowned oncologists in the country, and thanks to his swiftness and incredible team, I was able to undergo a successful surgery just one short month later. Fast forward....
We feel as though it's time for us to give thanks to Dr. Edington, his team at West Penn Hospital (AHN), and all of those who have fought or are fighting this disease. By donating, we will continue to make the necessary steps toward finding a cure.
