A Personal Message from Emma & Anisette:
Hi! My name is Emma, and I am so excited to be partnering with my new Off-Track Thoroughbred, Anisette ("Anna"), as part of SCRAF's 2026 Thoroughbred Makeover Team.
Anna is truly a special horse. From the moment I met her, I fell in love.
Earlier that same day, I was talking with my mom about how amazing it would be to someday own my own horse and compete in the Thoroughbred Makeover. I especially dreamed about having a mare. At the same time, I knew it seemed out of reach financially. My mom is raising me and my special needs brother, and horses are expensive.
We talked about how incredible this opportunity would be, and my mom told me she wanted to help make my dream of owning a horse a reality because I had worked hard to be responsible, learn everything I could about horses, volunteer, and give back to my community. Since I hope to work with horses after high school, she knew how much this opportunity meant to me.
That evening, I met Anna.
When I walked into the barn, she lifted her head from her hay and gently put her nose into my hand. I looked into her eyes and instantly knew she was the one. She was sweet, kind, and curious, and I couldn't stop thinking about her.
Since that day, Anna and I have become partners.
Anna is incredibly smart and learns quickly. She loves attention, treats, grass, watermelon, and pretty much any cookie she can get. She enjoys baths on hot days, playing in her water bucket, going on walks around the ranch, and learning new things. She is brave, curious, and always willing to try.
One of my favorite things is that whenever Anna sees me coming toward her stall, she immediately lifts her head and nickers for me. We spend so much time together, and every moment feels special.
Anna won three races during her racing career, and I think she has an amazing future ahead of her. When we first started together, she still had some baby behaviors and needed help learning patience and manners. Since then, we have been working hard together under the guidance of my trainer, Kiersti Wylie. Anna has already made so much progress, and it has been incredible watching her confidence and talent grow.
I have been involved with horses for most of my life. I have been a Pony Club member for six years and have competed at Pony Club Championships three times. I have volunteered with SCRAF for seven years, helping with grooming, hand-walking, feeding, rehabilitation horses, and outreach events. I have also volunteered with REINS Therapeutic Horsemanship Program for more than four years, helping riders with disabilities and assisting instructors during lessons.
Through SCRAF's "Training-to-Train" program, I am learning how to develop a recently retired racehorse under experienced mentorship while continuing to improve my riding and horsemanship skills. Working with Anna has taught me patience, consistency, and the importance of building a partnership based on trust.
For me, the Thoroughbred Makeover is about much more than competing in Kentucky.
It's an opportunity to showcase Anna's incredible potential, demonstrate how kind and versatile Thoroughbreds can be, and share the story of a horse and rider learning together every step of the way.
I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn from Anna, to learn from my trainers, and to be part of Team SCRAF. I can't wait to see what the future holds for us, and I'm excited to share our journey with everyone who chooses to support us.
Thank you for being part of Anna's next chapter.
