A Personal Message from Jileann & Cali Bay:
My name is Jileann, and ever since we met, Cal has been my big goof. When we first met, he made sure I knew he had a big personality - let’s just say he was a little too interested in my arm! Despite that unforgettable first impression, I quickly saw what a sweet, curious, and intelligent horse he is. My horse’s name is Cali Bay, although I usually call him Cal, and he is truly my sunshine horse.
Cal is a recently retired racehorse who has become a very special part of my life. He may be retired from racing, but he is still just as full of personality and has the sweetest, most curious nature. He is incredibly social, loves being the center of my attention, and always wants to be around other horses - even if that means getting a little too far into their personal space! His goofy and curious personality is one of the many things that makes him so special.
Thanks to SCRAF (Sandia Creek Ranch Auxiliary Foundation), I learned about the "Train the Trainer Program" and the opportunity to work with and meet Cal. I was so excited about the chance to join the program with the goal of learning as much as I could about retraining a Thoroughbred for a second career. Getting another horse was definitely a bonus, of course! Now, Cal and I are working together to build our partnership and prepare for the Retired Racehorse Project in Kentucky.
Going to Kentucky would be an incredible opportunity for Cal and me to showcase everything we have learned together while continuing his journey into a new career. With your support, we can make this amazing opportunity possible and help Cal take the next step in his journey!
