A Personal Message from Ariel & Sasafran:

Sasafran or 'Frannie' as she's called around the barn, is the sweetest horse you will ever meet. Every day when Trainer Ariel Jones arrives, Frannie whinny’s a greeting and waits eagerly at her gate to come out for some learning. Ariel runs a Pony Club Riding Center, and prioritizes training and teaching based on evidence-based methods. Growing up with a 'difficult' horse, Ariel learned the value of developing relationships with horses based on trust rather than force and has brought that same methodology to Fran's journey from the track to her second career.

Ariel has been developing young riders for years but is newer to starting young horses. Frannie has already been an excellent learner and forgiving teacher, quickly adapting to the new expectation that a person on your back means a relaxed walk, not high stakes run! Fran does still get her running and sillies out- she goes in turnout with Ariel's lesson ponies on the daily and they mentor her on importance of taking time to socialize and time to kick up their heels. Frannie towers over her girlfriends, but they love her anyway (and she makes great shade!).

Ariel is excited to attend the Retired Racehorse Project with help from CARMA and SCRAF!  Ariel's goals for fundraising are to cover the costs of shipping to Kentucky as well as therapeutic shoes and x-rays for Sasafran's front legs. Sasafran is already off to a great start building her condition with basic dressage work and trail riding. We're so excited to find out what Frannie wants to try next and would love for you to be a part of her story!

How You Can Help Sasafran
Your support helps provide:

  • Daily feed, hay, and care
  • Veterinary and farrier services
  • Training and education opportunities
  • Transportation and competition expenses
  • Travel to the Retired Racehorse Project Thoroughbred Makeover in Lexington, Kentucky

Sasafran's racing career may have been brief, but her story is just beginning.

Thank you for helping us give this deserving mare the opportunity to discover what comes next. Every donation helps turn a former racehorse's second chance into a successful future.

Together, we can help Sasafran write the best chapter of her life yet.
