The Barnett-Searing National Cancer Foundation

Donation Supporting John's Kona Ironman - Miles for Smiles

I co-founded the Barnett-Searing National Cancer Foundation(BSNCF) in memory of my sister, Jenny.  Jenny passed away from ovarian cancer at the age of 26.  Jenny was not just my sister, but a great friend, as well.  Her death came as a shock and created a void in my life.  The Foundation has helped fill that void and serves as a way to continue the light that was Jenny’s life by helping other female cancer patients and their families as they navigate a difficult time in their life.

Since co-founding BSNCF in 2001, I have been amazed at the courage and perseverance displayed by the female cancer patients we serve. The fighting spirit of these women has inspired me to dig deep when training or a race day became overwhelming.  As I embark on the greatest physical challenge of my life, I know that I will call upon this inspiration daily.

When the Foundation created Team BSNCF, my personal goal was to carry my sister Jenny's memory with me to new finish lines around the world.  Over the past 20 years, Jenny's spirit has carried me to many finishes across the US and as far off as Australia and Spain.  In October of 2022, I plan to take Jenny to the penultimate finish of them all, in my opinion, the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.  I have dreamed of participating in Kona since I was a teenager and now look forward to this epic challenge.

The mission of the Barnett-Searing National Cancer Foundation is to support women of all ages impacted by cancer and the loved ones who care for them, lifting up those on the verge of quitting, inspiring them to do more than just survive, and empowering them to thrive. BSNCF sends "Smile Kits" to patients offering them support and comfort at a very difficult time.

I am hopeful that my competing in the Kona Ironman will inspire others to donate to support this cause.  My goal of $10,000 is based on an amount that will provide 400 Smile Kits to female cancer patients throughout the entire United States.  Please help BSNCF send smiles across the miles.
