Who we are

We are a Youth and U23 high-performance competitive girls rowing team, committed to providing uncompromising opportunities for athletes to reach their full competitive potential in the sport of rowing. Our home is on City Island, Bronx, NY and we row on the surrounding waters of Eastchester Bay, the Hutchinson River, Long Island Sound and sometimes even go on "Safaris" all the way under the Throgs Neck Bridge and the East River.

Our athletes are passionate about the sport and train exceptionally hard, with our Varsity athletes training 2.5 hours per day, 4-5 times per week AND racing at regattas all over the country on weekends. Our typical race destinations include Saratoga Springs, NY - Mercer Lake, NJ - Cherry Hill, NJ - Schuylkill River, Philadelphia PA -  Charles River, Boston MA - Jacksonviile, Tampa and Sarasota, FL - Mission Bay, San Diego CA - Lake Natoma, CA - and even St Catharines, ON Canada !

We have an extraordinary record of recruiting success year after year, with multiple athletes being recruited to programs at Stanford, Yale, Princeton, Georgetown, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia, MIT, Harvard, Michigan, USC, UCLA, UVA, UNC, Wisconsin, BU, BC, Indiana, Bates, Williams, Duke, Notre Dame and the list goes on.

Every dollar donated to City Island Rowing goes to our Capital Equipment Fund. From this, we invest in top-notch equipment to ensure our athletes have the tools they need to fulfill their potential as regionally and nationally competitive rowers.

Rowing equipment is expensive... boats are made from hand-laid, high modulus carbon fiber, and an 8 person shell costs north of $45,000 ! A similar story is presented with the oars that run $400 - $500 each. There are also electrical components such as cox boxes, wiring, speakers, stroke coaches - all integral components to getting the best possible performance from our crews.

There is also a ton of necessary support equipment and infrastructure to complete the picture... coach / safety launches, megaphones, docks, a trailer to transport our shells to regattas, and a truck to tow it! All of the equipment our athletes use today was made possible by the generous support and efforts of athletes, their families and friends of CIR since this great little club was created.

There is more to come! Ultimately we would love to have our own piece of land and build our own boathouse. Every dollar we receive in donations gets us closer to that ultimate goal. THANK YOU for your support.
