Remember when you were starting out and all the little incidentals it takes to step out on your own.  Lamps, kitchen utensils, pots & pans, dishes, on and on.  It takes a lot to make a place a home.  If you don't have family to give you hand me downs or other housewarming gifts, it becomes a whole lot.  Without that support people resort to fast food instead of gathering around home-cooked meals.  Children sleep on floors without bed-frames and dressers.

There is a level of pride and Hope you give by helping people have a kitchen table to invite others to gather around.  A kid has a better nights sllep in a bed off a cold floor.
