Information
Ballard Food Bank has kicked off our Hope Beyond Hunger campaign to raise funds for the construction of our new home, a new community hub for food distribution and other vital resources. We broke ground on the construction of our new home on September 15th. The building is scheduled to open its doors in the fall of 2021. Our future home is located at 1400 N.W. Leary Way. Our grocery-store-style food bank will be co-located with a garden, spacious waiting area, and café where visitors can share food and community. All of these spaces will provide a better experience for visitors. A significantly larger warehouse space (3,000+ square feet) will include additional sorting areas and storage space that will make the Weekend Food For Kids and Home Delivery programs easier for staff and volunteers to operate. In addition, the Community Resource Hub will expand to provide visitors greater access to the resources they need including rent assistance, medical check-ups, case management, VA services, and more. The new building is made possible by a dynamic project team. Spectrum Development Solutions is overseeing the project as the development manager. Graham Baba is the architect—they recently designed the PCC In Ballard—and Wilcox Construction is leading construction of the building.
This will be the first building that we have owned—a huge effort that has brought together supporters from individuals, businesses, and government. We hope that donors large and small will chip in to help us reach the finish line and realize the dream of our new home.
