EMDR Walk in the Park

The EMDR Walk in the Park celebrates both the legacy of Dr. Francine Shapiro and the power of EMDR therapy.

This year’s walk is fully virtual, so no matter where you are in the world, you can join us! Whether walking through your neighborhood, at the gym, or enjoying a local park, you can participate from anywhere. There’s no limit to how many people can join us this year, and we’re aiming to bring together people from all corners of the globe.

Celebrating 30 Years of Healing

We’re celebrating 30 years of bringing healing through EMDR therapy—and we’re walking to honor that journey. To mark our 30th anniversary, we’ve set ambitious goals that reflect the impact we aim to make:

  • $30,000 fundraising goal to support the Trauma Recovery Network®
  • 300 miles walked collectively throughout June to symbolize the journey of healing with EMDR therapy

Walk Your Way - There's multiple ways to get involved!

  • Walk on your own schedule, wherever you feel most inspired
  • Form a team with friends, family, or coworkers
  • Create challenges and track your miles together
  • Set up an individual or team fundraiser and encourage your network to donate in support of your walk
  • All participants receive a commemorative t-shirt

Why a walk in the park?

The EMDR Walk in the Park celebrates both the legacy of Dr. Francine Shapiro and the power of EMDR therapy. In 1987, Dr. Shapiro took a historic walk in Los Gatos, California, that would lay the foundation for the trauma treatment now known as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. As she walked through the park, she noticed that by moving her eyes back and forth, disturbing memories began to lose their emotional charge. This serendipitous discovery marked the beginning of a therapy that has since helped countless individuals heal from trauma. By participating in this event, you are not only honoring Dr. Shapiro’s groundbreaking work but also raising awareness for EMDR therapy and its ability to transform lives.
