Description

Join us for the 8th Annual A Walk in Her Shoes

A powerful 2-mile community cancer awareness walk hosted by My Sister’s Keeper–Cleveland.

This year’s walk will take place on the inspiring campus of Case Western Reserve University in celebration of our meaningful new partnership with the students of CWRU, who recently launched the My Sister’s Keeper CWRU Chapter to help advance our mission through campus and community engagement.

Location: Freiberger Field, 11169 East Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44106

We’re honored to have the continued support of Councilman Kevin Conwell, now joining us for the third consecutive year to uplift this grassroots movement and expand our reach across Greater Cleveland.

A Celebration of Life, Partnership & Community
A Walk in Her Shoes is more than a walk—it’s a joyful celebration of strength, healing, and sisterhood. We gather to honor the courageous journeys of cancer warriors, raise awareness about early detection, and connect our community to life-changing resources.

This year’s walk will be led by Da Land Brass Band, bringing the vibrant energy of a New Orleans second line procession to Cleveland! Dance, strut, or walk in step with the rhythm as we celebrate survivorship with spirit and soul.

Note: Walking is optional!
Guests who prefer not to walk are welcome to stay at the main event site to enjoy live music, line dancing, local vendors, and health resources. There’s something for everyone.

What is Second Line Style?

Second line is a cultural tradition born from the rich heritage of New Orleans’ African American communities. It began with jazz funerals and social aid and pleasure clubs, where music, movement, and community turned moments of sorrow into powerful celebrations of life.

In a second line, the first line includes the brass band and the lead marchers. The second line is everyone who follows—dancing, waving handkerchiefs, spinning parasols, and celebrating resilience with every step.

Symbolism in Second Line:

Umbrellas & Parasols represent spiritual covering, celebration, and protection during life’s storms.
Handkerchiefs are waved in joy and remembrance—honoring the past while moving forward.
Dancing & Drumming express freedom, defiance, and unity—especially in the face of hardship.
The Walk Itself becomes a living tribute: every step, a statement of survival, strength, and solidarity.

Together, we walk with purpose. We walk with power.

We walk for her.
