Course Marshal

At key intersections on course, direct runners using course marshal flags. Course marshals will wear WTAC-provided vests and use yellow flags.

Location

To be assigned by Race Director. Individual assignments given out at volunteer orientation at finish line (23 Sanctuary Road) 9:30am. Please allow time to arrive and park before then.

Course Marking

Details

Setup flags and directional arrow signs. Course marking maps and supplies to be provided. Familiarity with course preferred.
- Sat afternoon: 4-mile (Kimball Preserve & campground), 8-mile (1 person from course split to Buckeye Brook Road, another from Buckeye Brook Road to Kings Factory Road)
- Sun morning: picnic area & Sanctuary Road area

To be assigned by Race Director. Individual assignments given out in advance. Meet at Burlingame Picnic Area, 23 Sanctuary Road.

Sweeper & Course Breakdown

Details

Follow last runner / walker. Pick up flags and directional arrow signs. Two needed:
4 mile (pick-up flags/signs on trails, drop at gate near intersection of Sanctuary Rd and Duhamel Ave)
8-mile (pick-up flags/signs on trails, drop at road intersections)

Meet and start from race start/finish at Burlingame Picnic Area, 23 Sanctuary Road.

Packet Pickup

Details

Check in runners using computer software. Provide race packets (bib, shirt, etc) to race participants.

Water Stop

Details

Bring supplies from race start to water stop. Setup up water stop, including tables, trash can, and filling cups halfway with water.
Hand cups to approaching runners. Clean up roadway of cups before leaving, and return supplies to race start/finish.

Location

On Vin Gormley Trail fork just before trail exits onto Buckeye Brook Road. Pick up supplies in advance from race start/finish at Burlingame Picnic Area, 23 Sanctuary Road.

Parking marshal: Main Lot

Details

Using provided vests and flags, direct drivers into parking spots. When main lot is full, instruct incoming cars to park at overflow lot at YMCA Camp Watchaug, 160 Prosser Trail, and arrange course marshals at camp entrance and inside camp at parking lot.

Trail Race Photographer

Details

Capture images of runners along the course. Volunteer will need the ability to position themselves strategically along the trail while staying mindful of runners’ paths.

Location

Along the 4-mile and 8-mile courses, preferably on the trail (not asphalt sections) and at scenic or interesting locations (ex: along the pond shores on 4M course, and rock backdrop in Mile 5 on 8M course).

Start / Finish line setup

Setup cones, streamers, start/finish flags, timing equipment at finish line.
