Learn About the Filipino Community's Work with Food Sovereignty and How to Plant Food at Home

In this Instagram Live event, we will chat with Haya Munoz and Reily Savenetti from FCS's Innovation Learning Center about food sovereignty with the Filipino culture, and they will demonstrate how to plant food at home. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the work of the Filipino Community of Seattle (FCS). 

This is a sliding scale event - EVERYONE is invited! No cost to attend.

Chinese Dumpling Demo with BFB Board Member Hsiao-Ching Chou

Hsiao-Ching Chou is the author of the cookbooks Chinese Soul Food and Vegetarian Chinese Soul Food. In this virtual cooking class, she will demonstrate her famous potstickers that have inspired many home cooks to get into the kitchen. Hsiao-Ching will share her techniques for making the dough, rolling wrappers, and pleating the dumplings. These are the same potstickers that landed Hsiao-Ching on Tony Bourdain’s show No Reservations! An ingredient list will be provided so you can follow along or make them on another day!

Cooking with Beans and Lentils

We’re inspired by the new cookbook Easy Beans by chef Jackie Freeman. Cooking instructor (and Ballard Food Bank Board member) Hsiao-Ching Chou demonstrates a couple of recipes from Easy Beans, including this twist on a traditional potato salad: The recipe for Warm Potato, Apple, and Lentil Salad puts a fresh spin on some staple ingredients. Whether your family shops at the food bank, grocery store, or farmer’s market, these recipes will be fun to make!

Get Excited About Our New Garden in Our New Home

In this Instagram Live event, BFB team members Ysabel Diaz and Mytet Gumin will chat about all the amazing things happening in the garden in our current home and what we're excited about with the garden in our new home! We will also demonstrate how to plant food in containers in your own homes.

Who’s ready for summer and sunshine? This June, Ballard Food Bank is hosting a series of virtual events to build excitement and support for our new home. With construction well under way, we are counting on the local community to help us cross the finish line.

 

These community events are open and accessible to everyone in our community—clients, donors, supporters, and all community members. Everyone is encouraged to sign up!

 

From a dumpling demo with our incredible board member Hsiao-Ching Chou to a gardening demo with the Filipino Community of Seattle (FCS)'s Innovation Learning Center, these virtual gatherings will give you a flavor of what is possible in our new space. Each event will have a suggested donation amount for those who are looking to donate to the campaign, but your presence is the best gift of all!

 

Join us to connect with neighbors, build a more vibrant community, and learn more about our new hub for hope.
