ABOUT MIDDLE GRAY FOUNDATION

Middle Gray is a nonprofit, fiscally sponsored residency program founded by Romeo Okowara, dedicated to supporting visual artists through access to professional facilities, studio and ideation spaces, and thoughtfully designed programming within Detroit’s Little Village. Our mission is to provide artists with the resources and environment to develop their practice while actively building community and expanding upon the already impressive and evolving art hub in Detroit.

We host four artists each year for one-month residencies, offering a stipend, private accommodations, and access to digital and analog facilities including printing and darkroom spaces, as well as gallery, screening, and versatile event areas. Residents work closely with our program director to develop career and community-focused programming during their stay, fostering growth that benefits both the artist and Detroit’s creative community.

Aligned with Little Village’s collective interest in accessibility and creative engagement, Middle Gray is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that supports artists, local institutions, and community groups. Guided by this shared mission, we aim to provide a welcoming hub that inspires and connects those passionate about photography and the wider visual arts.

The Middle Gray Foundation is a fiscally sponsored program of United Charitable a 501(C)(3) nonprofit organization EIN: 20-4286082.
