Pedal the Cause

As many of you know, in the summer of 2002 I learned that my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. I was living in Chicago at the time and decided I needed to be closer to him due to the gravity of the situation. I moved back to Missouri a few months later. The following year was the toughest year of my life as I watched him undergo chemotherapy treatments every week at Siteman Cancer Center in St. Louis. I watched him battle this disease while remaining in extremely upbeat spirits. Despite his remarkably positive attitude, 21 years ago on June 11, 2003, my father lost his battle with the disease that nearly 2 Million Americans are diagnosed with annually.  

I know most families have been impacted on some level by cancer. This year, about 612,000 Americans are expected to die of cancer, more than 1,650 people a day. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US, exceeded only by heart disease. In the US, cancer accounts for 1 of every 4 deaths. 

I am pleased to share that once again I will be participating in the 2024 Pedal the Cause Inspired event here in St. Louis. Since 2010, its first year, Pedal the Cause has raised over $45 million dollars to support cancer research, treatment and care at Siteman Cancer Center and Children's Hospital here in St. Louis.  I will be participating in the Pedal the Cause 50 mile course later this month and have committed to raising at least $10,000 to help fight cancer, with a personal goal of raising at least $25,000 as this year marks the 21st anniversary of my father passing of cancer.
