Hi, my name is Alma Berber, and I’d like to share my journey with organ donation — a gift that saved my life.
On February 8, 2023, I received a double lung transplant that gave me a second chance at life. I had been living with pulmonary arterial hypertension, a rare, incurable, and progressive disease that affects the lungs and heart, ultimately leading to heart failure.
Because of the selfless decision made by an organ donor and their family, I am here today. Their generosity not only gave me life, but also restored my ability to truly live.
As of April 2025, I am doing incredibly well. I’m walking, jogging, and full of energy. I’m enjoying life — traveling, making memories, and, most importantly, being present with my family and extended loved ones. I can do things I never imagined doing again — all without being short of breath.
Organ donation gave me more than lungs. It gave me time, freedom, and a future. And for that, I am endlessly grateful.
