Jammin' for Jim~
Jim, James, Dad, Papa, Cubby- whatever you call him, Jim Mueller is one of the most amazing humans you'll ever get the chance to know. After a mountain biking accident in Arizona, there were some nodules in his lungs that showed up on the x-ray of his shoulder. After monitoring the nodules for a few months, and eventually having a biopsy, in the fall of 2024 Jim was diagnosed with Stage 4 Melanoma in his lungs. This diagnosis rocked him and his family, as he was never diagnosed with Melanoma anywhere else and he wasn't having any symptoms. This is when Jim became a patient at UW's Carbone Cancer Center. Under care of Dr. Vincent Ma, Jim joined a clinical trial for immunotherapy to treat the melanoma. Thankfully Jim's Melanoma responded very well to treatment, and the staff at the Carbone Cancer Center provided Jim and his family with outstanding care and support.
During monitoring scans for his Melanoma, a lesion was spotted in Jim's liver. After two biopsies, Jim received a second cancer diagnoses of Hepatocellular Carcinoma in the summer of 2025. Jim will be undergoing MRI guided radiation under the care of Dr. Michael Bassetti, a world-renowned Radiation Oncologist at UW Carbone Cancer Center.
Jim and his family feel very fortunate to be at such a wonderful institution and supported by passionate and forward-thinking staff at all levels. By raising funds for the UW Carbone Cancer Center, they hope more patients and families will have access to the advanced medical and patient-centered care that Jim has experienced.
