Our Mission
Help to grow an educated and healthy population in order to cultivate sound economic development in Grand Boulage, Haiti and the surrounding region.
Our Guiding Principles
- To be in relationship with the people of Haiti; particularly the people of Grand Boulage
- To nurture this ongoing relationship by making trips to Haiti several times a year
- To strive together for strong communities and programs that are resilient and self-sustainable through 3 tangible actions:
- Respecting (honoring the culture, norms and values of the community)
- Listening (discerning priorities, understanding others’ needs)
- Sharing (ideas and solutions)
Our Impact
Education: Seeds of Hope for Haiti believes that education is an integral part of Haiti’s long-term sustainability and ability to prosper. We provide support to the school of Our Lady of Sorrows in Grand Boulage including salary subsidies for the primary and secondary school teachers, empowering them to educate over 420 students. In addition, we disbursed over $10,000 annually for the purchase of educational materials, books, and classroom supplies.
Healthcare: Access to primary medical care and clean water is a vital part of our mission in Grand Boulage. Partnering with Medicines for Humanity (MFH), we staff a medical clinic in Grand Boulage which is staffed by a medical doctor and three nurses. To date we’ve provided primary care consultations to over 2,000 individuals.
Food: In addition to medical care, food is a critical need in Haiti. Having enough food is a struggle for many people. We initiated a canteen, offering school lunches to the children of the village serving 420 plus hot meals per day which for many is their only hot meal of the day. In addition to the canteen, we’ve also supported the annual Easter youth educational retreat and Feast day celebrations.
Emergency Relief: We provided emergency relief aid immediately after Hurricane Matthew in October 2016 to purchase seeds for farmers who had lost crops and livestock, and helped repair homes, roads and other badly damaged infrastructure.
Prayer Partners: Through the connecting of prayer partners, the people of faith in Southbury, Connecticut are nurturing solidarity with people of faith in Grand Boulage, Haiti. These partnerships are forging personal relationships through the exchange of correspondence and photographs.

Gang Activity in Grand Boulage – Why Your Support Matters More Than Ever
Dear Friends and Supporters,
The people of Grand Boulage, Haiti--home to our Twinned Parish, Our Lady of Sorrows--are enduring one of their most difficult moments. Gang activity and instability have made daily life dangerous and uncertain for families who were already struggling to survive.
When the risk of extortion by gangs arose, Seeds of Hope for Haiti’s Board of Directors prayerfully considered suspending financial support to the school and clinic. After consultation with Outreach to Haiti and Medicines for Humanity, we made a unanimous decision: we will not walk away. In times like these, when fear and hardship grow, love and solidarity must grow stronger. Today, thanks to your generosity, both the school and clinic remain open--a beacon of hope for children, parents, and the elderly who depend on them.
We remember when a parish council member once asked, “How long will you remain?” They had seen many well-meaning groups visit and not return. Our answer was, “For the long haul.”
A member of our group observed that our relationship with Our Lady of Sorrows was like a courtship. Their pastor, Father Francois Tristant, smiled and said, “No, we are married now.” Like any lasting marriage, our commitment is built on faith, trust, and love--and it will not be broken by fear.
Your support today does more than keep doors open. It:
- Provides Lifesaving Care: Your generosity ensures children are fed and the sick receive medical treatment when access to resources is limited.
- Restores Hope: Keeping the school, canteen, and clinic open gives families safe spaces and a sense of normalcy amid uncertainty.
- Builds Resilience: Partnering with Outreach to Haiti and Medicines for Humanity helps the community endure hardship and prepare for better days ahead.
- Demonstrates Unwavering Love: In times of crisis, it is easy to turn away. Yet, your giving proves that love and faith do not abandon people when life gets hard.
- Protects the Future: Continued support ensures trusted partners remain on the ground, ready to respond and thrive when peace returns.
Your compassion and generosity are more than financial gifts; they are lifelines, symbols of faith, and promises kept. Sixteen years ago, we pledged solidarity with Our Lady of Sorrows. Today, that covenant shines brighter than ever: we are still here, and we will remain.
Thank you for standing with us--and with them--through prayer, through giving, and through love that refuses to give up.
