"We fear it is cancer.”
Those five words will knock you off your feet. I learned this firsthand on February 7, 2025, when I had diagnostic testing after finding a lump on my breast. A biopsy confirmed it and so began our family's personal journey with UW Breast Center and UW Carbone Cancer Center in our corner. I've already had surgery, began chemo treatments at end of May that will last into August, then a month of radiation will follow. I can't help but stay positive knowing we have UW Carbone Cancer Center, their research, and their exceptional team of specialists in my corner.
I hope to be done with treatment and still feel strong enough just in time to walk in the Badger Challenge on Sunday, September 21st, here in Madison. This is a critical fundraiser that includes bike rides and runs of various distances, along with a 5K walk. All proceeds benefit UW Carbone Cancer Center and its research for their now 17 locations in WI and IL treating cancer patients and helping families throughout this region. As my surgeon said, “We know so much more now than we did just 20 years ago. We know what’s feeding your cancer and know how we can treat it.”
Our Team Triple E began in honor of my niece who was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 28. She was treated at UW Carbone Center, and 10 years later we continue to honor and support her journey by participating in the Badger Challenge each year. In addition to my niece, my sister-in-law, brother-in-law, co-worker, and neighbors, there have been so many others who have been diagnosed with various cancers…AND NOW I JOIN THEM.
Please join me and my family in this fight. Sign up by joining our Team Triple E to ride, run, or walk on September 21st, OR you can donate using the link below. Together, let’s keep the fight against cancer going to one day find a cure…because no one wants to hear those five dreaded words.
Thank you!
